Get Involved

If this sounds like the kind of thing you would get involved in that’s great. You don’t need to have a computing background, just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and the desire to make a difference. Alternatively if you know somebody or a group of people who could help out, give them our web address and a swift boot up the laptop for encouragement. With enough people volunteering with Malaptop, we will be able to make a huge difference but we need YOU!

The easiest way for you to get involved is by promoting us through your network of friends, family and colleagues. If you think this is a good idea, tell people about us!

Simply by reposting a blog, tweeting and sharing us on Facebook you will help us spread the word out to more people and grow this idea.

Different groups of people can help in different ways. Check out some ideas below.

Individuals

If you do want to get involved then these are the kinds of things you could do:

  • Collect laptops and get them ready to be sent out
  • Get in contact with schools to find suitable places to send the laptops to once they are ready
  • Promote the idea and encourage people to donate their old laptops to us
  • Help co-ordinate volunteers

We are also looking to get in touch with people who have a good knowledge of linux and computers, and people with experience with importing and exporting between Malawi and Scotland. If you are looking for more information on the committee roles available please click here.

  • Set up a Malaptop group in your school. Students will be able to learn about citizenship, computing, organisation and marketing and your school would create links with a school/many schools in Malawi, depending on the number of laptops sent out.  This is an early stages idea and we would love to hear from teachers who would like to contribute towards creating a schools programme.
  • Offer your school as a possible local Drop-off Point. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to donate laptops, which is why having a network of Drop-off Points is really useful. For more information about what this entails, click here.
